કેથે પેસિફિકનું એક વિમાન જેણે તા.1લી જાન્યુઆરી 2025ના રોજ હોંગકોંગથી ઉડાન ભરી હતી એ વિમાન 31મી ડિસેમ્બર 2024ના રોજ અમેરીકાના લોસ એન્જેલસમાં ઉતર્યું હતું. આવું થવા પાછળનું કારણ પેસેફિક મહાસાગરમાં નિર્ધારિત કરાયેલી ઇનવિઝીબલ ઇન્ટરનેશનલ ડેટ લાઇન છે. પૃથ્વી પર એક એવી નહીં જોઇ શકાય તેવી સર્વસ્વીકૃત ડેટ લાઇન નિર્ધારિત કરવામાં આવી છે. આ ડેટલાઇન બે દિવસોને અલગ પાડે છે. નોર્થ પોલ અને સાઉથ પોલને અલગ પાડતી આ ડેટલાઇનને કારણે નોર્થ પોલ અને સાઉથ પોલ વિસ્તારની તારીખો વચ્ચે એક દિવસનો તફાવત હોય છે. કેથે પેસિફિકનું આ વિમાન ઇન્ટરનેશનલ ડેટલાઇન પરથી પસાર થઇ રહ્યું હતું ત્યારે તેની તારીખ 1લી જાન્યુઆરી હતી અને પસાર થઇ ગયા બાદ 31મી ડિસેમ્બર 2024 થઇ ગઇ હતી. વિમાનના પ્રવાસીઓને બે વખત ન્યુઇયરની ઉજવણી કરવાની તક મળી હતી. પરંતુ, આ એવી માનવ સર્જિત ખગોળીય ઘટના છે કે જેની ચર્ચા હાલ વિશ્વભરમાં ચાલી રહી છે.

કેથે પેસિફિક એરલાઇન્સની ફલાઇટ સીએક્સ-૮૮૦ એ તા.1લી જાન્યુઆરી ૨૦૨૫ના રોજ ઉડાન ભરી પણ જ્યારે અમેરીકાના લોસ એન્જેલિસમાં વિમાને ઉતરાણ કર્યું ત્યારે તેની તા.૩૧ ડિસેમ્બર ૨૦૨૪ હતી. આ ફલાઇટના પ્રવાસીઓને બે વાર ન્યુ યરની ઉજવણી કરવાની તક મળી હતી. આમ થવા પાછળનું કારણ પેસેફિક મહાસાગર પર ખેંચાયેલી કાલ્પનિક ઇન્ટરનેશનલ ડેટલાઇન છે.

વિમાનના પ્રવાસીઓએ પહેલાં હોંગકોંગમાં નવા વર્ષની ઉજવણી કરી હતી. એ પછી તેઓ લોસ એન્જેલસ પહોંચી ફરી નવા વર્ષની ઉજવણી કરી હતી. નવા વર્ષની ઉજવણી બે વાર કરવા મળતાં આ પ્રવાસીઓ માટે એકવીસમી સદીના પ્રથમ રજતજયંતિ વર્ષમાં પ્રવેશ યાદગાર બની રહ્યો હતો.

આ અનોખા પ્રસંગનું કારણ પેસેફિક મહાસાગર પર આવેલી ઇન્ટરનેશનલ ડેટલાઇન છે. જ્યારે કોઇ વિમાન આ ડેટલાઇન પરથી પસાર થાય ત્યારે તેની તારીખ બદલાઇ જાય છે. પશ્ચિમની તરફ જતાં વિમાનની તારીખ એક દિવસ આગળ જાય છે તો પૂર્વ તરફ જતાં વિમાનની તારીખ એક દિવસ પાછળ જાય છે. આ જ કારણે હોંગકોંગથી સવારે ફલાઇટ પકડી પ્રવાસીઓ ઇન્ટરનેશનલ ડેટલાઇન પસાર કરી લોસ એન્જેલસ પહોંચ્યા ત્યારે પણ પહેલી જ તારીખ થઇ હતી. આમ, આ પ્રવાસીઓને બે વાર નવા વર્ષની ઉજવણી કરવા મળી હતી. સોશ્યલ મિડિયા પર આ બનાવની ઉત્સાહપૂર્વક ચર્ચા કરવામાં આવી હતી.
